Columns :: MusicViews Al Petteway and Amy White Concert Event Date: March 23, 2002 - Virginia Beach, Virginia March 23, 2002
![]()
So much is added to the musical experience when the performers faces
are awash with love throughout a performance. Thus went a magical two
hour concert tonight at the central library presented by the multi-talented
Al Petteway and Amy White. The married couple are skilled on a wide array
of instruments: guitar, bazouki, mandolin, piano, drums and ankle bells!
They performed many original tunes, and original arrangements of traditional
Celtic tunes which they wryly called, "Amy's Original Traditional
Tunes."
They played with crisp intonation and emotional depth. Guitar bodies were struck percussively and unusual tunings and time signatures were frequently employed. Most of their music is instrumental, although Amy's deep, rich voice is simply gorgeous. One wishes it could have been heard more. In between songs they cited funny, little stories of how their compositions were born during moments in their relationship or experiences during their travels. Al and Amy have created a magnificent matrimony of love and music, a rare manifestation that inspired the audience to respond with two standing ovations.
Kimmy Sophia Brown has loved humor and music for as long as she can remember. She writes the column "From the Back Porch" as well as reviews of music in her column "MusicViews". Her goal in her music reviews is to introduce music she loves to people who may not have heard that particular artist or CD. For information about how to submit a CD for review, click here.
