Poetry & Lyrics :: Lyrics by Peter Falkenberg Brown Happy Day a song for children December 9, 1980
I went running through the field, Chasing after breezes that I knew I couldn't catch. The cows that grazed there watched me, Wondering what made me act like that. I didn't have a reason - I really couldn't say, I only knew how glad I was for such a happy day! Happy day! O bright new happy day! Your sunlight dashes through the leaves In such a merry way. It makes me want to laugh and shout, And dance in fresh sweet clover, And bring to people everywhere the warmth of such a day! Like a chipmunk in the sun, Basking on a mossy rock with a smile on his face, I let my cares slip from me, And challenged the rabbits to a race. The silly creatures beat me, but not to my dismay, It didn't change the joy I felt from such a happy day! Happy day! O bright new happy day! Your sunlight dashes through the leaves In such a merry way. It makes me want to laugh and shout, And dance in fresh sweet clover, And bring to people everywhere the warmth of such a day!
